Comacchio (Ferrara)

Comacchio, in the province of Ferrara, in the scenic and historical aspect, is one of the major centers of the Po Delta. It originated about two thousand years ago, during its history was subject to the power of the Exarchate of Ravenna before, the Duchy of Ferrara later, to return then to be part of the Papal States. The foundation is attributed to the Etruscans, who were already allocated in the Po Delta. Near Comacchio it was in fact the Etruscan city of Spina. Founded on the union of thirteen small islands (coastal dune cords) formed by the intersection of the mouth of the Po Primaro with the sea, it had to orient its development, both urban and that of the economy, on the element water .
